OBJECTIVE

The 4th International Conference on Spectral and High Order Methods (ICOSAHOM) continues a tradition established through the organization of the 1st International Conference on Spectral and High Order Methods by C. Canuto and A. Quarteroni in Como, Italy in 1989.

Following that, ICOSAHOM has subsequently been organized on a three year basis, with the second ICOSAHOM in Montpellier, France in 1992 and the third conference taking place in Houston, USA in 1995.

The main objective of ICOSAHOM continues to be to bring together researchers with interest in the theoretical, applied and computational aspects of high order and spectral methods for the solution of partial differential equations.

Subjects include, but are not limited to, spectral methods, high-order finite difference and finite element methods, h-p finite element methods and wavelet based methods. Applications include problems appearing in electromagnetic, fluid and structural dynamics, efficient solvers and preconditioners for high order methods and parallel aspects of spectral and high order methods.

It is anticipated that ICOSAHOM'98 will bring together a broad group of scientists and engineers with diverse interests in the theory and application of spectral and high order methods for the solution of a multitude of problems.

WORKSHOP IN HONOR OF PROF. V.S. RYABEN'KII

An integral part of ICOSAHOM'98 will be a workshop in honor of Professor V.S. Ryaben'kii for his many contributions to numerical analysis during a professional career spanning a period of 50 years.

The workshop honoring Prof. Ryaben'kii will consist of a number of talks on the different aspects of numerical methods. A number of leading mathematicians and computational scientists have tentatively agreed to contribute to the workshop, among them being

S. Abarbanel, Israel

R. Krasny, USA

A. Bayliss, USA

ICOSAHOM'98 will take place during the week of June 22-26, 1998 at the Daniel Hotel in Herzliya, Israel. Herzliya is a resort, beautifully located next to the Mediterranean, north of Tel Aviv.

Registration

The registration fee prior to May 1, 1998 amounts to US$ 175 covering registration, a Get-Together reception, coffee during breaks and daily lunch at the conference hotel. A book of abstracts, available at the beginning of the conference, is also included. After May 1, 1998 the registration fee is US$ 200.

Daily onsite registration at a fee of US$ 40 per day will be possible. However, this does not include lunch at the hotel.

Participation in the conference dinner on Wednesday, June 24 in the Bet-She'an National Park is prized at US$ 30 per person, including transportation, guided tour of the archaeological site and dinner.

Registration for the conference and the dinner can be done by completing the attached registration form and mailing it, with the selected form of payment to the address stated on the form.

Accommodation

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Daniel Hotel at rates of US$ 139-152 per night for a single room, including breakfast. Alternatives, all in walking distance from the conference venue, include The Sharon Beach Resort Hotel, with rates starting from US$ 88 per night for a single room and a limited number of rooms at the Tadmor Hotel starting at US$ 58 per night for single occupancy.

Reservation of rooms at all hotels can be done by completing the attached hotel reservation form and mailing it, with the selected form of payment to the address stated on the form.

Cancellation Policy

A full refund of the registration fee will be made for cancellations received no later than May 20, 1998. After this date, no refunds will be made.

With the exception of a US$ 40 handling fee, a full refund of the hotel deposit will be made for cancellations received up to 60 days prior to arrival. For cancellation up to 30 days prior to arrival a 50% refund will be made while no refund will be made for cancellation received less than 30 days prior to arrival.

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

The invited talks as well as the accepted contributed talks will appear as regular papers in a special issue of Applied Numerical Mathematics. Prior to publication, the papers shall undergo a normal review procedure to ensure the highest quality of the papers.

A copy of the conference proceedings is not included in the registration fee but will be available for purchase at a later time as will the details regarding length and format of the final papers.

SUPPORT FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS

A limited number of young scientists attending the conference may receive partial support for the travel, accommodation and conference fee. The Scientific Committee invites applications for partial support along with the submitted abstract. The applications should contain a short CV of the applicant along with a motivation for the requested support. Only contributing conference attendees will be considered for partial support. The application should be mailed or E-mailed to the conference office at Brown University, USA.

CALL FOR PAPERS AND WORKSHOP ORGANIZERS

The Scientific Committee invite abstracts to be submitted, describing the content of 30-min talks. These abstracts should not be less than a page while not exceeding two pages and should be submitted either in hard copy to the conference office Brown University, USA or by E-mail in LaTeX-style to the conference E-mail address. The abstract will undergo a thorough referee-process prior to acceptance and those accepted for presentation will be collected and given to conference attendees at the beginning of the conference.

The Scientific Committee also invites organizers to submit suggestions for topical workshops related to the theme of the conference. These workshops should consist of segments of 2 hours with contributed talks. It will be the responsibility of the workshop organizer to solicit talks for the proposed workshop. The Scientific Committee asks that organizers submit a brief motivation for the proposed workshop, along with a tentative list of speakers participating in the workshop. These proposals should be mailed or E-mailed to the conference office at Brown University, USA. Partial support for a very limited number of workshop organizers is available.
