Gelonia L. Dent, PhD

Gelonia Dent earned her PhD. in the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University in May 1999, under the guidance of Martin R. Maxey. Her research area is fluid dynamics and focuses on investigating fluid-particle flow systems at finite Reynolds numbers using a psuedo-spectral multipole expansion method. She is interested in oil reservoir simulation and biomechanics. In her life before Brown, Gelonia earned a M.S from Clark Atlanta University in mathematics and a B.S from the University of Georgia also in mathematics. Her journey began in high school at The St. Pius X Catholic High School in Atlanta, GA.

An abstract of Gelonia's thesis work can be reviewed here. During her mad dash to the defense line she did not apply for jobs so she got turned into a postdoc and remained at Brown for another year. During that time she had time to reflect over the years spent in Providence, The Ditch. Over all it was good. She made a few friends, learned how to live without a car, and learned to drink the best red wines.

Currently, she is a Research Staff Member in the Mathematical Sciences Division of the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY.
