Academic background
Professor Sirovich received his A.B. in Mathematics from Johns Hopkins University in 1956. He stayed on to a receive a Ph.D. in Fluid Mechanics in 1960. Then he spent three years as a research scientist and another one as a member of the staff at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences in NY. In 1963 he joined Brown University as an assistant professor in the Division of Applied Mathematics. From 1986 to 1991 he served as the first director of CFM. From 1972 onwards he has also been an adjunct professor at Rockefeller University in NY.

Professional Affiliations
He is one of the editors for the Applied Mathematical Sciences and the Mathematics in Science series of Springer Verlag (NY), a contributing editor for the Le Bulletin des Sciences Mathematiques, an editor for the Quarterly of Applied Mathematics and an associate manager editor for the SIAM Journal of Applied Mathematics. Since 1988 he has served as one of the three editor for the Textbooks in Applied Mathematics (TAMS) of Springer Verlag. He is a member of the 1992-1994 Otto Laporte Prize Committee. He's been serving as a consultant for NASA-ICASE (Langley Research Center), United Technologies and Ormat.
