Modal basis

 A modal basis for triangle elements has been presented in [16] and [21], and it was applied to to fluid dynamics problems in [20], and to geophysical fluid dynamics problems in [32]. We now consider a basis for quadrilaterals which is compatible with the triangle basis and thus they can be used together. This combination was first proposed in [27] for a set of three-dimensional polyhedra.
